Purple Line intelligentsia?
This morning I had to drop my car for service in Evanston, so I boarded the Purple Line at Main.
In the car I entered, I immediately noticed lots of readers. A quick count showed just three of the 21 people on the car were NOT reading. That seems high compared to my Red Line commutes in the morning. That's not to say that there are no readers on the Red Line. Just that there seemed to be more on the Purple.
So does that mean Purple Liners are smarter?
Nah! They just have a longer way to go to get to the Loop or wherever.
There were just as many romance-novel readers scattered in with the magazine and newspaper readers.
Anything to make the time go by and enrich the soul.
How many passengers were reading Devil in the White City? That is like *the* book of summer in this city....

Good question, Steve. Today I didn't notice it on the Purple Line, but last week I saw two women in their 20s on the same car reading that book.

wow, does that make me a trendsetter since i read it in December??? :)
Seriously, though: I was in that car too, one of your three non-readers. I was the one snoring like a buzzsaw. (Also, I think I drooled. Sorry about that.)

Yes Gladys, you are definitely way ahead of the curve here.
Now wake up and stop drooling!
(Oh, by the way, can I borrow your "Devil" for my August beach vacation?)
