Woman loses balance, falls to death at Morse El
A sad story reported in today's Chicago Tribune (reg. req.):
"FAR NORTH SIDE -- A woman who was running to catch a Red Line train at a Far North Side station Monday lost her balance and was hit and killed by the incoming train, authorities said.
"The incident happened at about 3:20 p.m. in the 1300 block of West Morse Avenue in Rogers Park. Witnesses told police her death appeared accidental, said Chicago Police Sgt. Robert Cargie.
"She was running up the stairs, apparently to catch an incoming southbound train," Cargie said. "Her momentum propelled her forward to the point where she lost her balance. The train was pulling in so she fell right as the train was pulling into the station." After the accident, northbound Red Line trains did not stop at the Morse Avenue station for a couple of hours."
People, life is too precious to go running after a train. There really will be another one in just a few minutes. Really!
Ironically, this morning at the Thorndale stop, I saw a 40-ish woman running in heels down the other side of the platform. This is while our southbound train was stopped at the station. And just a minute before the northbound train arrived.
What was she thinking? I know I won't be running on any platforms again.
I'd rather be alive to deal with the annoyance of missing a train, thanks. My God.

Whenever I ride the train with my husband, he always says, "Hurry! Hurry!" if he hears a train coming. It's joke now--he's just teasing me because I've told him I will never run for a train. But, depending on the situation, I actually *do* sometimes hurry to catch a train, running up the stairs and up onto the platform, knowing I could trip and fall any time. I never think about the possibility of falling into the path of an oncoming train, though (just falling on the platform). Sheesh...
