Tis the season -- to be jostled and smacked
It's not even Thanksgiving and we're already being buffeted by passengers laden with shopping bags and packages. As if being smacked with a backpack wasn't enough.
On the way home last night, a seated woman in front of me was bopped in the head by another standing woman wielding two shopping bags, while I was pummeled by a guy's backpack as he slid around another person to exit.
At least the woman was polite enough to apologize.
Let's all try to adopt the holiday spirit and keep our packages and backpacks to ourselves. And if the inevitable happens, simply smile and say you're sorry.
Whenever I have a backpack or bags with me on the train, I try to hold them down by my feet. That way, if I ever have to squeeze past people, at least I'll only hit their legs rather than their head or upper body!

it's a crazy time of year. i try to be understanding and mellow about jostlers, and hope they can forgive me too.

This drives me CRAZY. It's even worse when the person has an attitude and is nonchalant about the offense. Grr.
It's *almost* as bad as those last-minute types who aren't cognizant enough to realize what stop they're at and race for the door at the last minute, further delaying the bus/train. I could beat them silly with a used banana peel about their faces. [/commuter rage]
