Construction for Wilson Yards project set for spring

Construction on the long-awaited, much-debated Wilson Yards development should start this spring, according to a Tribune report Sunday.

The development, which was vetted through a long community process, includes a new Aldi's store at the north end near Wilson, two nine-story apartment buildings at the south, and a seven-story commercial building in the middle, anchored by a Target and a 12-screen movie theater complex.

So *that's* why they burned down the CTA train barn back in the middle 90s! :] Anybody remember it?

Anyway, I think it's a positive thing for that area. There's no modern cinema that I can think of nearby and the Music Box over on Southport is mainly for art films.

Can't wait to see drawings.

Yo recuerdo -- I believe it was Halloween weekend 1996. We were having at party over at Montrose and Ashland, and a couple who came up LSD from the south side told us about the fire.

It sounds like a good move -- peeps over in that area currently have a long way to go (by city traffic standards) to get their movie and Target itch scratched.
