Lovers on the train
Yes, a Valentine's Day special on lovers on the train.
Last week a couple boarded at Addison. First, they found seats across the aisle from each other. They held hands across the aisle. How sweet. Good thing no one tried to walk past.
Then they found a seat together. When I left them at Grand, his arm was around her shoulder, and they were holding hands, stroking each other's thumb.
I saw no wedding bands on either hand. But let's face it, married people just don't show that much public affection, right?

My Love Train story goes back to Friday, October 13, 2000 when an attractive young woman approached me on the Brown Line between the Merchandise Mart and Quincy. She broke the cardinal rule and actually talked and made eye contact with a stranger on the train (so taboo!) Before she exited her stop at Quincy she said to me "Maybe I'll see you around." We smiled and said goodbye but I felt something - something important about this chance encounter. So right before the doors closed I ran out of the train and down the stairs. I ran up behind her as she was heading west on Adams and I said to her "I don't mean to be a stalker or anything but do you think I could get your number?" She seemed very happy that I followed her out of the train and excited to exchange numbers.
The rest they say is history... three months later I proposed to her on the Brown Line where we first met and we've together ever since. This October 13th we'll be getting married and I have the CTA to thank for all of the love and happiness we now share together.

Man, Ed, great story. What do you think the odds are of yer chance meeting working out on the CTA? One in a thousand? One in a million? Good luck to you both.

Once, about 20 years ago, I humped Rebecca De Mornay on the red line, even though the car was full. Oddly enough, music was playing over the PA system...Tangerine Dream, I beleive it was.

Wow, Tom!!!! That's amazing!!! I had the very same experience!!! And I remember there was some old drunk that kept staring at us until I politely escorted him onto a bench.
