CTA PDA: Pretty Damned Annoying
I'm no prude. I'm OK with Public Displays of Affections -- as long as they aren't so obvious and annoying. Unfortunately, some are both.
- A couple in their early 20s sits on the Red Line. The woman is playing on her phone, her boyfriend with his arm draped around her shoulder. He begins nuzzling her neck with kisses while she still works her phone. Pay attention, girl!
- I spy another couple on the Grand platform. The guy is sitting, his back against the wall. The girl is between his legs squatting, her face sucking his. Get a hotel room next time, OK?
- Yet another couple boards at Addison after a game, in full Cubs regalia. She is rubbing his bare back under his T shirt as he leans forward, looking totally despondent and unresponsive to his touch. Cubs lose! Cubs lose!
OK, I think people making out on the train is gross, but not because it's just really uncomfortable watching it. Personally, when I get off the train at night and go home, I turn my water to scalding and use a half of a bottle of antibacterial soap before I touch anything in the house, including my cats. I mean, honestly, who knows what you could have touched on the poles or seats? I can't imagine actually opening my mouth to make out with someone on the dirty dirty train. Maybe I should just change my Tattler name to Howard Hughes, but I still think trying to be intimate and exchange any sort of body fluid on the train is nasty just from a hygiene perspective.

okay....does anyone really get turned on by a wet willy? I saw that pic and I was really disgusted. The thing I hate is when two love birds, hugged up on each other can't part from the doorway when people are trying to board. You have your whole life to hug, kiss, and hold hands so please move out the doorway so others can board.

I guess I'm weird. I find affectionate couples a lot less annoying that people on their phone talking loudly, people eating on the train, or obnoxious Cubs fans.
At least they're so focused on each other they can't possibly bother anyone else.

Yeah, I suppose you're right, Hysan. Unless there are loud sucking sounds and then I'd be disturbed. But I suppose I'd take a couple of smoochers over an annoying celler.
