Praying for a good ride
I notice the young woman right away on the Howard platform. She's about 30, wearing a long black skirt and head covering, pacing the platform, reading rapidly aloud from the Torah.
She boards the train, takes a seat, and continues to pray aloud in Hebrew. As soon as someone tries to sit next to her, she jumps up, not wanting to sit adjacent to anyone, though she leaves her bag on the seat.
Meanwhile, down the aisle, a short 40-ish man displays all the signs of tardive dyskinesia -- repetitive, involuntary, purposeless movements. Finally, he falls asleep, his droll puddling on his t-shirt.
The woman sitting next to him must have thought her own prayers were answered when he drifted off to sleep.
