Purple Line threat traced to Hot House pay phone

Police say that the Purple Line bomb threat was traced to a pay phone at 31 E. Balbo St., near the Hot House, according to the NBC5 report.

So yes, they usually can trace the origin of the threat calls, but rarely can actually catch someone in the act.

Not saying that all you northsiders are crazy or the ones making these threats, but I haven't heard a threat made on a south or westside train line yet. Ever thought these are just people late for work and figure if they call in a threat on their train line, they'd have an excuse for missing work? :) I hope these pranks will end soon because one day something serious might happen and we all think it's just a person crying wolf.

Final thought to people today--we're getting off subject and the real problem in hand. It's not about funding for transit, suicide bombers, suicide jumpers, or trains being on schedule. There's a bigger world out there with real problems like Oprah not being able to shop at Hermes after hours. People, lets focus!

Ha!

So true, so true. Thanks for putting things into perspective!

I love Hermes ties.

But cmama, until Oprah rides the CTA, she is irrelevant to this blog.
And I suspect she won't be riding anytime soon.

cmama: last time i checked balbo is south of madison streets. in fact, i believe it's in that little area called the SOUTH LOOP. that would make it on the south side.

I could make a very anal comment and say that's not the south loop because the loop (in my opinion) is where all the trains loop around a circle downtown. But that'll start a riot!

Anyway, like a chicagoan said about the boundary lines of different neighborhoods: the boundaries for the northside, northwest, west, near west, south, etc..are all up to interpretation. We all pretty much agree on a general area give or take a few blocks. But I think it's save to say (I hope at least one person agrees with me on this one) that 63rd & Cottage Grove is not the southern boundary of Edgewater.

If they called from south of the loop to screw up the Evanston train, chances are this wasn't someone just running late for work.
