More Jesus sightings
South Side Bert adds this gem to our collection of Jesus sightings around town:
This was back about two years ago but I have seen this guy plenty of times afterwards.
I was commuting from the Midway Orange Line station and as I came to Ashland, this guy dressed as Jesus, literally, in a purple robe, with a crown of thorns, carrying a huge wooden cross, came in and was speaking to a girl in Spanish about how he heard the devil in a Pink Floyd song and then decided to dress up like Jesus.
He was also selling rosaries and Spanish Rock/Gospel CD's.
If it's the same guy I used to see regularly downtown, his name is Gustavo Aguilar. Robert A Davis of the Sun-Times took a photo of him coming up the Chicago Red Line station that appears in the book Illinois 24/7 (spread pp 128-9; I think there used to be an online gallery that included the shot, but I can't find it now).
