One good thing about security checks
It was late Friday afternoon, after a long work week. I just wanted to get home as quickly as I could and start the weekend.
As I descended the long stairway from Grand to the station, I heard the train whooshing into the station. I immediately thought to myself, "Oh darnit! I'll have to wait for the next train. I hope it's not delayed."
I made my way through the turnstyle and headed down the last flight of stairs. But I realize that I hadn't yet heard the train leave. As I walked onto the platform, there sat the train, doors wide open, beckoning me. And I even found a seat in the Hobo Corner!
Turns out there was a "security check" in progress. Guess those checks are good for something!

That happened to me yesterday at Clark/Division. I assumed the train whose air conditioning I could hear humming from the turnstile area was uncatchable, and I just stepped on down the stairs in no hurry at all. And there the train still was, and I got on just fine. Musta been a security check, because the operator wasn't leaning out the window and was probably involved in the check. Train took off just seconds later.
