"Doorkers" called-out on DC Metro
Rachelle B. has a photo of a DC metro train ad admonishing those who crowd or block the doorways as "doorkers."
She thinks the ads are more lame than the CTA's own "Don't be Jack" ads, but I disagree. Like the commenter on Rachelle's post, I agree that the Jack ads are very poorly designed, with their stick figures. And I think the use of humor on the DC Metro is much better than on the Jack ads.
What do you think?
I always interpreted the "Don't be Jack" ads to be cleverly legal way to say "Don't be a jackass", so I didn't mind it too much.

most of the don't be jack ads suck, but i LOVED the first one (see jack. see jack spray. see jack pay.) i don't know, the stick figure in the process of spray painting the side of a bus was really funny.
and, also, i tried to steal one of them from an el train once. it ripped. my friends harassed me for vandalizing the anti-vandalism sign.

maybe the cta should remind people not to be a doorker. I actually like that ad....clever idea.

I think tasering people to get away from the damn doors would be more effective.

Or tossing their bag or cell phone right through the open doors so they have to chase it right off the train.

I prefer the well placed elbow on the way through the door.
As for the ads... they both suck. Who cares?

blasphemers!!! i LOVE the don't be jack ads. i got some extras when i was down at the main CTA station (which could that place be any less convenient compared to the old merch mart stop?).... i just love how cute the stick figure guy is.
and the ones they have are pretty good, i think. i LOVE jack! i've wanted to steal some, too... but thought that was pretty jack-ish (sorry, nicky).

dcist in d.c. did a feature on this.

The "Don't Be Jack" ads are ineffective. They're usually unnoticeable, and are always at the top of the train. If I'm eating on the train, am I looking up to the ceiling? No. I'm looking at the food on my lap, watching it spill onto the seat next to me, the floor, etc.
Speaking of the "DBJ" ads, aren't those cups of coffee also against the CTA rules? Sticky floors suck as much as Flaming Hot Cheetos in the seats.

dcist....that was too hilarious!
I think if the CTA cracked down on coffee cups/mugs there would be a riot! But on the upside, there would be a dunkin dounuts and starbucks on every corner outside a train station (opposed to every other corner now)

The doorkers ad is way better than the "Jack" ads as it calls out those who are being idiots on the train very directly.

The CTA should make Hobo Corner and Gordita-Eating Trannie signs...

As a public service, I try to step on the toes of every dorker I encounter.

"Doorker"? Man, that's insanely lame. The stick figure is brilliant by comparison. BTW, cups of coffee on the CTA are, I would think, OK as long as they're closed and not drunk from. The rule is against eating and drinking, not food and drink. At least I hope so...otherwise they'll be ticketing people for carrying bags of groceries and patting them down for hidden protein bars.

you would think that if they were serious about no food on the trains, they would close all those dunkin donuts that are practically on the platforms.

Because of course the Dunkin Donuts employees force us, at gunpoint, to take our donuts and eat them on the train rather than on the platform or, heaven forbid, buy some donuts on the way out of the station!

I just moved here from DC a few months ago. I loved the entire series that they came out with. DC Metro has a history of blunt ads to inspire courtesy. My favorites is a picture of a cell phone with the caption "No one else cares what you're having for dinner!".
