Blue Line train transformed into art gallery

A group of artists looking for alternative venues to display their art found one last month -- on a Blue Line train car.

Says one of the artists: "The subway gallery readily presented itself as a place that sorely needed our aesthetic input. We will try to organize future events and also have spontaneous random artwork intervention, specifically on the train as I like the train and all its craziness."

Not to be a pill, but did CTA offer the car as a venue? Did these folks get anything that resembles advance written permission to do this stuff? Or is this (however humorous/intriguing/artistic) what CTA's lawyers might refer to as vandalism?

No vandalism occured, In fact the car was left in better condition then when we found it. I made sure of that. Picked up much trash myself. I put it all in a big garbage bag.

Well, assuming what you said is true, thanks for the clean-up work, and I hope you return.

"...spontaneous random artwork intervention, specifically on the train..."

Technically, it's not spontaneous since you're already planning it. And it's not random if you're already chosen the train as a venue. I've seen this done several times before, but there are very good reasons why you don't see it much - it's really unfair to people using the CTA for its intended purpose.

Please be careful not to overlook the fact that the train is public transportation and not your personal gallery space and captive audience. And don't be surprised if you get calls from the folks who paid to place those ads you covered up without permission.

It's not art. It's a toilet paper holder in a place it's not meant to be.

"It's not art. It's a toilet paper holder in a place it's not meant to be." If we believe some of the other threads, maybe it is needed there.
