How to turn off CTA wireless alerts -- and other helpful hints

A visitor from Canada asked in a comment today how to turn off CTA wireless alerts.

Here's how (and click here for a more detailed earlier post on this subject):

Send this text message to 48802 (the group number), or simply reply to a message from group:

.OFF

Note the period in front of the word "off".

Well, since you brought it up... :) I had disabled my messages with .OFF while I was out of town. I turned them on again this morning at around 6:30am but haven't received anything yet (other than the standard "you've turned messsages on"). Do you have any idea what could be wrong?

Thanks!

Actually, you don't need the . before off or on

Vana, I would suggest going to the upoc web site to check your "message delivery" status. It should say "on":

http://www.upoc.com/group.jsp?group=ctaalerts

And Brad, I could be wrong but I believe you do indeed need the "dot" before the off and on messages. I've seen plenty of errant "off" messages sent to the entire group.

Thanks Kevin.
My message delivery was on, but somehow I wasn't a member of cta_alerts any longer. I just joined again :)

is there a way to only get alerts on certain lines or bus routes?

Yanet: Sorry, we do not offer alerts for specific alerts for certain lines or bus routes. We see the CTA as a system that works together, and feel that a delay in one area will no doubt have an impact on other areas.
