Clutching Cliff closely

A woman in her early 20s boards the Red Line at 7 am with a phone glued to her ear.

"Oh, I'm sorry for waking you up. You can go back to sleep now."

The woman talked so loudly that she woke up train riders, so I doubt her friend was going back to sleep.

"Well I've been pulling an all-nighter. I've been up since 3 pm yesterday working on this stuff.

"Well, I have to do a three-page character.analysis on one book and a three-page character analysis on another. I just don't see how writing papers are gonna help you in life."

Ah yes, the Eternal Question. Well, at least those two Cliff's Notes books she's carrying should help her some in writing those papers.

Comments

She was probably valedictorian at her Chicago Public High School.

It's always struck me as curious -- the folks who are having an extended phone conversation at 7:30 in the morning. I'm barely in the mood to shower at that time of day, let alone have a heart-to-heart with some jerk on a cell phone.

I'm not awake at 7:30am (I know I'm lazy)....but she was up for two days typing two papers that were 3 pages each? Did she have to read the books (or cliff notes) first? Doesn't understand why writing is important in life? Everybody, this lady is the future of this country!

Sounds like Starbucks made a lot of money off of her.
