Scary, tight quarters on Moscow platform

Here's a very popular YouTube video from englishrussia.com of a Moscow subway platform traffic jam.

And we thought we had it bad in our subways. Though you gotta love the chandeliers.

Also, check out these photos from the Russian subway, including snaps of a Moscow police or commando or whatever sitting and cleaning his AK-47.

The crowds are indeed nuts in Moscow (and the varying cops all carry scary guns and check your documents on a regular basis if you look anything but lilly-white), yet, believe it or not, the subway masses move pretty efficiently, and the subway system is the best I've never riden, beating Berlin and any mass transit in the USA. This is based on an extended amount of time I spent in Moscow two years ago. One downside, at least for the summer: Those subway cars can get hot, as they don't seem to have A/C. But they come on time, and even during non-rush, come often, perhaps every 3-5 minutes at the very most. And the trains, while old, are clean.

As a native of St. Petersburg, Russia's second-largest city, I must say that I have seen worse. I agree with what Moscow Mike said, adding only that the concept of actually putting AC in public transportation sounds rather bizzare as far as Russian mindset goes. Still, if ACs were installed, I am sure thousands of grannies who ride the subway every day would be enternally grateful.
