From a penny fare to a fare hike
Happy New Year and Happy (?) New Fares!
Late-night partiers on the CTA this morning dropped a penny in the fare box at 5:59 am, but pals who might have been lagging behind had to pay 25 cents to 50 cents more than the usual fare at 6:01 am as a fare increase went into effect.
I'll write a more detailed analysis on Monday about how the fare hike affects various types of CTA riders. Meantime, enjoy the holiday!
The CTA employees are some of the most pathetic people alive. They are lazy, dumb and just all around aloof. They are ruining the whole CTA system. I'm ashamed to even live in this great city because of "them".

Well, sean, my experience has been that any time you have a large group of people, most of those people are perfectly good individuals, while a few bad apples are obnoxious and spiteful.
That's true of CTA employees. And also, come to think of it, the commenters on this blog.

Sean obviously has major misplaced priorities as to what he should be ashamed of. If I were, I would be ashamed that I still haven't been able to understand the proper use of quotes. Or should I say, if I were "him".

Disregard that post as it contains a typo. We'll try this again.

For a moment I'm going to ignore the fact that sean is probably just trolling and suggest that the sitting Governor would be a good place to start if you want to find just one person who's deserving of the righteous indignation inherant in the comment. Further, I'd point out that there are plenty of cities without transit systems to which sean might want to relocate so that his delicate psyche won't be damaged by transit workers who don't meet his rarified standards.

Well, I would have to say I agree with Sean. And to the other commenter, yes we are lucky to have a transportation system, but I think one of the requirements for applying for the cta is you have to be an rude, over-weight, unknowledgeable and uncommunicative individual.

Hmm, ALL CTA employees are rude? ALL of them?
then who was that guy who took the time to go into the construction area at Belmont, grab a ladder and recover my keys from under the stairs on Monday? I mean, I think he was a CTA employee, but according to some of you, he couldn't have been, because if he WAS, he actually should have just shrugged his shoulders and told me I was out of luck, right?
strannix hit the nail on the head. I've never had a problem with anyone being rude to me; more than likely they've been helpful. Also, most of the time you receive what you give.

I've said this before: The issue is not that there are a few bad apples or some who go that extra mile--which there are both of everywhere--but whether the organization has the willingness or ability to identify and deal with them accordingly, including acting on customer feedback rather than brushing it off.
The progress I will be looking for in the coming year is for the CTA to allow us to help them encourage and reward the good, and get rid of the bad.

Honestly, I think the CTA probably already does this. I'm guessing that somewhere between 75 and 80 percent of complaints I read on this blog about rude employees are more a case of people needing to get over themselves than any evidence of a systemic problem.
