Train supervisor harasses bummed out passenger

Here's a bummer of a story from Bluebummer:

Sothe other  night I was a part of the very fun Blue Line art gallery car. After all was said and done that was great.

But getting home was more exciting. We all got off the Blue Line at Belmont and the rest of the group had to go back south while I needed to continue North. As everyone who gets the alerts knows by now the Blue Line is one track from Addison to Jefferson Park.

Well when we arrived at Addison we were told by the operator that we'd be sitting there waiting for a Southbound train to pass us, even though we had just passed one at Belmont. So we sit at Addison for 30 minutes as two (2) more southbound trains go by!

After the first one I go out by the operator and ask why we are waiting for another train because we just passed one also! The supervisor there must have thought I was a threat in my completely nonchalant way of pointing out the fact that I would like to get home at a reasonable hour.

So then right before we finally get to move the supervisor comes and stands in the car by me and asks me what my problem was in front of everyone else on the train. So I have my camera with me to document the night and I thought, "I am gonna take a picture of this Jerk so I can send it into ctahelp@transitchicago.com."

Well once I take the picture he tells me it is illegal to take pictures on the train. So I of course had to inform him that it is not illegal and it is only illegal to publish in a newspaper or other media for profit to use one's image and likeness.

Then the strange part starts. He asks me what kind of pedophile pervert I am taking a picture of him, a strange man I don't know. So then he radios for police to meet us at the Jefferson Park station.

When we get to Jeff Park after dealing with this IDIOT who doesn't even know that a pedophile likes kids, not full grown men, he follows me out the tunnel to the bus depot area, harassing me the whole way: "Why don't you take a picture of me now, huh? In front of everybody.... Wanna take another picture?"

I just keep walking and thank God above that a 81 Lawrence Ave. bus is waiting to take me away. I started at 12:30 at Belmont and did not get home to Clark and Thorndale until 3:30!

If enough people comment to this I will post a link to the picture of Mr. IDIOT!

Photo, please! And if you ever get a chance, snap one of the dragon lady who works at the Damen CTA station, too. I'd like to put her mug on a dartboard.

To Charlotte:
Do you mean Damen on the Blue or Brown line, because the Brown line also has it winners.
Why not, post the picture.

All CTA employees have a responsibility to treat customers with respect. Verbal harassment is never acceptable, much less outright stalking (which is what he did when he followed you out of the terminal to continue to berate you). I'm incensed, just as a fellow CTA rider, to hear the story. Obviously this man should not be working anywhere near the public.

I really hope you post his picture, but more importantly I hope you send a complaint letter to the CTA. Sounds like this guy needs some definite retraining.

POST IT! POST IT! POST IT!

PLEASE post the picture. People that work for public entities need to respect their customers, the paying public. This guy should be at the VERY least severely reprimanded. Post the picture!!

Yeah, post it!

I had some shmo harass me at the Harlem station (O'Hare Blue) one time because I needed assistance with my Chicago Card, which he claimed was taking jobs away. Right. It was utter nonsencse, but I reported the guy anyway. I think that some CTA employees think they can treat people like crap and get away with it.

Thank you internet!

POST IT PLEASE :)

please, please, pretty please with a cherry on top POST IT!!! Also, send it to the CTA, Carole's blog and any other outlet who will post your story.

Sorry, but it's early in the morning for me and I didn't catch some parts of this story....but did the police show up? And why the h-e-double hockey sticks would the conductor leave the train and the passengers just to follow you. Isn't that making the train even more delayed. I also assume that there's atleast one other train behind this one wait for this idiot to move the train.

Also, I've never rode the blue line to O'hare past Division.... It's only one track between Addison and Jefferson Park? huh???

please post.
lets expose these supervisors for what they are:
the bus supervisor's job is to write down the bus # and time on a clipboard all day while sitting in their nice cars and holding up traffic chit chatting with their driver friends.

It wasn't the operator who followed me it was one of the supervisors. As for there being only one track, that's because they were doing construction on the south bound tracks that night. But yes the Supervisor hel the train up even more following me out to the bus terminals. I have sent a report of what happened and the picture of this "supervisor" to ctahelp@transitchicago.com already and got a resonse which I will post later tonight, when I am at home! And I will post the picture. Now to figure out how to get it on here? maybe the moderator here could giv me his email to send it to him? Thanks, Justin

Post it!

Definitely post that sucker. We know the CTA won't hold this jerk accountable, but at least the riding public can know to avoid interacting with him.

Did the police ever show up?

Justin, I sent you an email and gave you my email address. And the email link is on the left side and right here:

Post IT!! You should've gotten his ID# and reported his ass! I know that the chances anything is done are slim, but we all could've called and complained about the same guy. I think they pick the most inept employees to be promoted to Supervisor..

As a public service, I say POST IT! Then we can all be on the lookout for the jerk (unless your complaint to the CTA gets him fired).

I'd agree with the masses and say post it. You can do so yourself by uploading the picture to a free image hosting service, like http://imageshack.us/ and then post the link to said photo.

To RA: Oops, I forgot to specify that I meant the brown line Damen stop. There is a very surly woman who works there.

Post it!!! :)

i'd love to see it. let's see it!

What the hell is wrong with you guys? Of course he'll be held accountable. This isn't CTA managements fault, its the CTA unions fault, and management tries to keep the union in shape to the best of their legal ability to do so.

WHY IS EVERYONE HELLBENT ON PREJUDGING THE CASE BEFORE GATHERING ALL THE FACTS. YOU ARE GOING ON THE ASSUMPTION THAT THIS BUMMED OUT PASSENGER IS TELLING THE TRUTH. IT'S ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA TO HEAR BOTH SIDES OF A STORY, OTHERWISE WE WOULD ALL BE AN ACCESSORY TO SLANDER. I HAVE YET TO MEET A CTA EMPLOYEE THAT WOULD THREATEN ANY INNOCENT DEFENSELESS INDIVIDUAL.

How long have you been riding CTA, Junebug? I've lived in this city all my life, and over time I've encountered dozens and dozens of CTA employees with surly attitudes and ugly mouths who were always ready and willing to waste their work time (and our travel time) unloading on "innocent defenseless individuals" who made the mistake of asking questions or directions -- y'know, actually asking these mopes to do their jobs.

That said, I also have to say that I've seen dozens of exemplary CTA employees who unfailingly went the extra mile -- or two, or three -- to help out a customer in need. In any agency as huge as the CTA, both extremes will be present.

There's no way, though, that I'm going to discount Bluebummer's story; I've seen and heard and experienced too many other occasions like it. In my one-woman's-opinion, CTA needs to step up and discipline (if not fire) the dimbulb who treated him so badly.

Post the picture, please do.

JUNEBUG, This is honestly true. I got verbally harrassed because I asked a question. He radioed for the cops and continued to belittle be from Addison to Jefferson Park and was radioing in that the train would be sitting at Jefferson park for a while, while the photographer is taken care of. He got snotty with me and I took his picture to send in to ctahelp@transitchicago.com which I did. That evening I took all from the notes I took when I got home and was fuming and worded them into an email and sent them to the CTA. You all will get to see the picture! I Promise. And maybe even the email I sent and the response I got back. I am still waiting for the CTA to write me back and tell me what if any action was taken against the supevisor.

Bluebummer, experience has taught me that they will not exactly tell you what will happen to the supervisor. But if you sent an e-mail to them, stay on them and make sure something happens.

you shoulda kicked him below the belt

Y not post it? I work for NYCTA believe you me....we have our share of winners.........

I WORK FOR NYCTA(NEW YORK CITY TRANSIT AUTHORITY) AND BELIEVE YOU ME WE HAVE OUR SHARE OF WINNERS TOO.......POST IT POST IT POST IT POST IT POST IT POST IT POST IT POST IT!!

How do you get a CTA employees name and badge number? Does the CTA keep ID info secret? How can you tell what has happened after a rider has filed a complaint, or can you? What interest do the Feds have in, or over the CTA, in that they give the CTA a lot of Fed $. Got an attendant, plus supervisor complaint, that I would like to file. The CTA website doesn't seem to think anyone would want to comlpain.
